As the new year is upon us it’s easy to think…A new year. A fresh bloom and start. A new you. But it’s a time to not just make resolutions again, but a time to evaluate how far you’ve come over the past year, and few years. Perhaps it was a rough and challenging one with the rose petals being stepped on. And you have a lot to improve. Perhaps it was amazing, and you have a lot to reflect on to continue to move forward with even more positive inspiration.
Whatever the case, one thing holds true. It’s a new year. And we can always find new ways to improve ourselves, our relationships, our goals, and of course our upcoming future.
What I learned over the past year:
– Money definitely does not grow on trees. And when you need to budget, you need to to truly consider what you care about spending money on. I chose to keep a gym membership for sanity, but cut back on shopping and going out. I kept money for my cat, because she had vet bills to pay, but cut back on getting manicures so I could do so. In short, I cut back on the luxuries and focused on the things that were needed and the items that kept me sane (i.e. the gym, and of course some wine and cheese).
– Friendships can remain strong despite distance. Even if you move a couple states away, it doesn’t mean your friendships will become more distant. If the friendships are true and valuable to both sides, you and your friends may not talk everyday, but conversation will still be consistent and quality. And the ones who matter even more, you’ll still talk like nothing has changed. The beauty of technology.
– Life is unpredictable. You can’t plan for everything. Sometimes you have to roll with the punches, the happy moments, and see where life takes you. Patience is a B, but necessary. We may not realize where we’re supposed to really be, until we’re there.
– Grow to love yourself. Being able to spend time with just you is valuable and allows true growth. There’s less fear. Less worries. You know you can count on yourself. Perhaps start with going to the movies alone. Seriously.
A few ways I hope to inspire my own in the New Year:
– Challenge my fitness goals. I have learned that I am not the best runner, but I love spin, pilates, and weight training. So instead I’m working on finding the right balance for my body and challenging it to be slimmer, but also more fit and muscular.
– Challenge my cravings. I may be gluten free but it doesn’t mean I don’t love sweets. And in NYC, there is a gluten free version of everything. So now it’s about self control and balance.
– Challenge my drive. I want to grow more in my career and in my personal goals. I want to be a better marketer, a better manager, and of course better overall.
– Challenge myself. Grow my passions. Grow my hobbies. Grow in myself and who I am and what I love and care about.
And overall, continue to be kind, loving, daring, and of course, just plain awesome. Right?
