It’s true – I have the worst green thumb. I’ve even killed a cactus, when I over-watered it. Sorry to the friend who left it in my care, one summer. But, what are the benefits of said plant if you can manage to keep it alive and not under or over-nourished? Awesome ones…
The benefits of a plant include the following:
- Less Stress / Therapeutic for a better mood overall – Even the act of touching a plant can help release better energy.
- Promoting health and wellness – did you know that plants are basically an air purifier? They can help remove compounds/toxins from indoor air, furnishings and clothing.
According to CIPHR, introducing plants to your working environment reduces stress. In a study conducted in 2010, significant reductions were recorded where plants were located in the office. Including:
- Tension/Anxiety – 37% reduction
- Depression/Dejection – 58% reduction
- Anger/Hostility – 44% reduction
- Fatigue – 38% reduction
And to up that, CIPHR also stated that, “in the case of computer workers, productivity increased by between 10%-15%. The higher level of concentration can be attributed to the plants ability to reduce excess carbon dioxide in the air.”
I don’t know about you, but I may give my green thumb another try. There are a few plants the experts say you can’t “kill” as easily…
- Fern
- Aloe plant (this could be cool)
- Jade Plant
- Cacti (ha)
- Palm trees (I could go for this one)
I’ll report back soon…
