What defines who you are?

For some people, a job defines who they are. For others it’s their role in their relationship or family. For some it’s the impact they have within society and a change they can help make.

I used to think my job defined me. My personal brand was/is a digital marketer within the Boston community. I mean even my site www.pamsahota.com is about my digital marketing expertise and strategy advice across brands, agencies, and startups. This has been my life for the past 6-7 years (and still is mind you). It’s something I geek out about because I love seeing how technology and marketing play together and what mobile means based upon consumer behavior.

But is it all that I am? No. Is it what I’m good at? Yes.

I’ve realized looking back (thanks, Tamsen) that where my true passions (outside of fashion/style and digital marketing) lay are in inspiring others. I started this site because I want to help people be more confident in themselves each day. I want people to believe in who they are and give them the drive to get to where they want to go. What defines me, is being able to help others and give back to people. My friends. My family. My social community.

My job does not define me. My relationships matter but they don’t define me either.

My ability to affect change and influence others positively, does. That’s what defines my goals, my happiness, and in turn my drive each and every day.

What’s yours?

Awesome post Pam. Really really dug it. I always struggled with the question “What do you want to DO?” for a really long time. I finally just started answering “leave the world a little better than I found it.” and that’s made me feel a lot better about the whole thing.
