The Nine Rules for My Daily Life

Sometimes each day passes as fast as the next. You don’t realize that it’s already Wednesday or Thursday until you look up from the daily grind and the madness that has become blatant routine. Sometimes it’s great because it means you are busy and hopefully enjoying the rush of it. Other times, you need to stop, and breathe.
My daily routine involves not just work, which I do enjoy but also each of the following:
Eat for pleasure and for health: I love food so I like to enjoy what I eat, but at the same time be mindful of putting good things in my body on a regular basis. I may eat Brie, but I’ll also have protein vs. carbs.
Exercise as if it’s necessary to breathe: 5-6 days a week. No question.
Sleep just enough: I don’t need 10 hours but 4 isn’t enough either. I try to find a balance of 5-7 hours a night.
Have human interaction: Even if it’s a Sunday and I don’t want to leave my apt, I make sure to at least pick up the phone and have a meaningful conversation. Preferably in person.
Be productive: Get shit done. Because we are adults.
Take time for me: Even if it’s 30 minutes to catch up on a tv show or play fetch with my kitten.
Be mindful: Take time to understand why and how things are the way they are.
Make a memory: Sometimes it’s just as silly as a walk home with a friend. But it’s a quality memory.
Be grateful: I have so much to be grateful for. Sometimes I forget, and sometimes I want more. But other times I just have to sit back and say, this is awesome right now.
