Once upon a time

Once upon a time, there was so much to look forward to. You thought you’d go to college, get the perfect job in the best city, meet the person of your dreams, move in together, get engaged, have a big beautiful wedding, then a dog, then some kids, and live happily ever after.

Once upon a time, you didn’t imagine the bills you’d have to pay, the “adulting” in everyday life, that breakups happen all too often, and that perfect future, isn’t always so perfect.
But before we go and get all depressed….
Just because it’s not perfect. Just because it’s not what we imagined “once upon a time”… doesn’t mean it can’t be really great.
Life can’t always be planned. Life most likely won’t turn out exactly how we imagined.
We may enter a completely different career path. Marry someone who is not what we wrote down to be. Adopt kids instead of having our own. Live and explore ourselves a little longer in life. Realize that family is important. And so are friends who turn into our family.
Once upon a time is a nice thought. And it’s wonderful to be optimistic, and strive for our dreams. And work hard for them. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll get pieces of what we always thought would come true, especially this holiday season.
