Don’t Sleepwalk Through Your Life

We’ve all done it. You wake up, go through your morning routine. Rush to work. Get shit done. Deliriously walk/commute or drive home. Then you’re mindlessly eating dinner, glued to yet another screen. Before you know it you’re alarm is going off all over again.

Don’t sleepwalk through your life.

How boring is that? So many of us wonder how much we should be saving in our accounts for retirement and for when we’re “done” working. But how about right now? Today?

There’s something to be said for living the life you’re in today too. I am not saying not to save – that’s silly. What I’m saying is to save some for today too. Live the life you have and enjoy the moment you’re in. It may be morbid, but who the hell knows if we’ll be around to enjoy retirement. We are around to enjoy this upcoming weekend and the Fall and how it always feels like a fresh start.

Instead of worrying about the future, and living in anxiety. Instead of looking backward at the closed doors of your past, look at the ones you open for yourself each day. Corny, yes. True – definitely.

Take a moment and enjoy the people who surround you. You may need to take off your headphones for this one.

Take a moment and quiet your head.

Take a moment and make plans for today. Grab dinner with an old friend who you haven’t seen in ages.

Take a moment and get to that spin class you keep saying you’ll go to.

Take a moment and eat dinner without the TV or phone.

Take a moment to sleep in, to wake up refreshed.

Take your moment.
